Why We Ship Zutara by *Zutarian-Empire:iconZutarian-Empire:

“Zutara has a foundation in the two most powerful forces on earth: yin & yang and love. Add 100 years of war and genocide, the death and disapearance of a loved one, a touch of grief, disownment, banishment, a painful scar, elemental opposites, a handful of hatred, a couple of alter-ego's, an underground cave, a vile of spirit water, betrayal, repentance, forgiveness, crazy-amazing ninja power, and an eternal supply of passion and you've got a ship so incredibly epic that it makes me wonder if my television screen can handle it."–Amy-Anne

“Y'know, in spite of it all, I honestly don't care whether Zutara is canon or not. Because it was the GREATEST ship I've ever had the blessing to support with all my heart. I've never truly supported a pairing that made me feel the way I do about Zutara. It's just a beautiful thing to experience, for me. You know how when you try a roller-coaster for the first time, and throughout the whole experience you're overwhelmed with mismatched emotions -- fear, uncertainty, nausea, an incomparable sense of euphoria and blissful ambiguity. That was my experience with Zutara, and I love every second of it, and I love my fellow Zutarians. I really and truly believed that Zutara was something amazing and epic, an inspirational romance that told people of forgiveness and passion and hardships that love must go through under hard and trying times, touching every aspect of Avatar. Of learning to let go, and learning to accept, and most of all learning to LOVE again. This kind of experience shouldn't go to waste.” –Moony92

“I ship Zutara because it pulls two people from different backgrounds and heritage together through redemption and acceptance. Zutara teaches us that love truly is the the brightest in the dark; Zutara represents the flickering flame of hope that the world of avatar so desprately needs. A hope for a world where even the most different elements can come together as one.” –Whiterosepetals91

“I was never an opposites attract kind of person. So I didnt like Zutara at first. But then after watching alot of episodes. I realized they were actully very much in common. And after watching more and reading more fanfictions and looking at pictures people drew, i realized how much I loved this paring. It's nice to know that their are parings that have a deeper meaning, and aren't the plain, boring ones. And being able to explore a complicated, deeper relationship however romantic or not, it was interesting and thought provoking and was half the reason why i started really watching this series.”
–MasterofCardsandDice

“I ship Zutara because I've always had a place in my heart for the unexpected, and this ship ranks up there with a lot of other unexpecteds in my life. For instance, I never expected they'd have a moment in a cave together, but they did. I never expected that would later lead to them fighting again because one of them chose the wrong side, but it did. And after that, I sure as heck did NOT expect the boy to learn the error of his ways and make up for all his crimes, but to my greater joy, HE DID. What better way to surprise me yet again than to have the girl fall head-over-heels in love with him, instead of what is EXPECTED for her to do, and just forget about him for the sake of pleasing a child who doesn't need any more indulging? Sooner or later, everyone has to grow up...and I believe the Avatar himself shouldn't be exempted from this. I believe a big forgiveness scene is coming up, and I believe that that scene is just the beginning of something much greater that can/will come in the finale. Not to mention the first person you get a crush on ISN'T the person you ultimately marry. I've learned this the hard way, and I'd love to see Aang go through the same thing.” –theweasleyboys

“I ship Zutara, because it lets us see the show in a whole new angle. I mean, the struggle, the destiny, the opposites, the war, the "love will conquer all"-thing. Zuko wants someone who he can talk with, who he has a deep connection with. And that's, in my opinion, Katara. And what the heck is with all these hints? The OmaShu thing? The Aang letting go thing? All these YinYang harmony things? All these hints with Ursa and Kataras mum?!” –Aizuko

“Many people have asked me "Why do you still ship Zutara? It's not gonna happen." and all I can do is roll my eyes. Zutara is almost more than a ship. It's really something I, and almost anyone, can relate to. It has a plot line almost as old as time. Two people, from different cultures, coming together to fall in love. Who can't relate to liking someone of a different nationality, religion, sexuality, with different beleifs, ideas, or thoughts? Zutara could by my story, your story, or anyone elses story. –Sporky-chan

“…because the two are star crossed lovers, they see each other not as an enemy when they get to talk and really understand each other. they have a special bond. they see through each others eyes. i ship zutara because you never know whats going to happen next! it's something you sit on the edge of you seat for =D. i ship zutara for the passion and epic romance the two could have, they support each other, they keep balance each other, yin and yang, day and night, and sun and moon. I SHIP ZUTARA BECAUSE IT IS FIERCE AND PASSIONATE! i'm a zutarian and i will go down with my ship, zutara will always be zutara, wither it is cannoned or not =D.” –xstreamgirl

“I don't understand how you couldn't. They just look perfect together. First of all there is the water fire facter. Second, Katara is exactly the kind of person that would be right for Zuko. She is kind and loving and that is what he needs. Zutara is that love that I just want to see happen. See Zuko's life turn around and follow a rather Romeo and Juliet path. That feeling that two so different people can fall in love and be right for each other warms my heart and I willingly latched onto it.”
–risu-ruy-sama

“I think that true love is never the kind where everything is fine and dandy.
"Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it...It really is worth fighting for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk everything, you risk even more" -Erica Jong. True love is the kind of love you would risk things for, the kind that has conflict, not that you just have handed to you, and the type of love where you fight for it is the kind Zutara has. Through Zutara, you see the kind of struggles that really draw people closer together, and THAT is why I support Zutara, even if it may never be canon.”

“Well, when I first started watching ATLA in late 2006, I saw a little trailer of the season 2 finale. And I saw Katara laying her hand gently on Zuko's face. Now, I always thought Zuko and Katara were enemies. But that was what I though BEFORE I ever started watching Avatar. And so when I saw Zuko and Katara having this intimate conversation ALONE in the catacombs, I thought, "WOW, they must have gone through a LOT to go from enemies to having this talk together and for HER to have her hand on his face looking as if she's gonna heal his scar." Now, I was always one to ship the "forbidden love" couples and pairings. And I saw Zutara as a cool example that can change from a "forbidden love" to an epic relationship that can not only help the storyline of Avatar, but to help the world of Avatar since after all, Zuko is from the Fire Nation, and Katara is from the Water Tribe. If they were together, they can reunite the four nations again! So, after watching the season 2 finale, I started researching Zutara and ATLA like crazy 'cuz at that point, I didn't really know anything of both. And when I saw everything that was going on just for the ship of Zutara, I was like, "WOW! What have I been missing these past years?"So yeah...basically, to sum it all up, I ship Zutara, not only because it's awesome, but because for Zuko and Katara to go from enemies to being in an intimate relationship, I kne that they would have to go through a lot of development. And those are the kinds of ships that I...ship! And I am PROUD to be the Zutarian I am today! ZUTARA FOREVA!!” –zkjanie

“I originally was a Kataang fan but after a few episodes, I realized that Zutara was the way to go. I will always be a Zutarian because once I saw the first episode and Zuko said, "I must find the avatar and regain my honor" I knew right then and there he was going to join the Gaang and defy his coutry and I thought why stop there? Become fire lord and make a waterbender their Queen (talk about revenge). So what if Katara ends up with Aang and and Zuko with Mai, I will remain a Zutarian until the day I die!!!!!!( that sounds a little extremeXD). Ps Kataang sound like a name for a drink anyway =D.” –almost-there00

“Because it shows more than just the physical aspects of a relationship, it shows that love is so much deeper than that, love runs deeper than the little kisses, or hugs. It's about being there, listening and helping that person, wanting their good above your own, In the cave..what was Katara thinking? she and Zuko had just had a deep conversation about the loss of their mothers, and she's prepared right then and there to heal his scar! not even thinking of how she might need that water later, but just that she wants to help Zuko somehow. To me, when a relationship has adversity, when it has to struggle through something, that makes it deeper, more real. I absolutely love Zutara for this, because it's not just handed to us! it's something that as Zutarians we've had to wait for, not just the characters themselves. It takes time to develop, like anything good in life it doesn't come easy! That to me is what makes this relationship the most epic one I've seen. Long live Zutara!! :)”
–Crazysyrup

“I used to ship Kataang because it was 'cute'. I thought seemed to be perfect...until I started to notice the small interactions Zuko and Katara did share and every time the two of them were on the same screen, my heart swelled and I felt the sparks. Zutara isn't just SOME ship to me, it has such a deeper meaning. The ship Zutara is a beautiful one and it's not 'DARK' at all... It's inspiring and exciting, and Zutarians know good and well it gives us all chills because it's absolutely thrilling. I'm not going to say that because they are polar opposites in bending, they balance out. Nope, because it's something new and different rather than being a clique, it's a convention all it's own. –Akuzakuri-chan

“For me, Zutara wasn't just about "they look good together". It was much more than that. They had so much in common right from the beginning, both were passionate and fighting for what they believed in and they would've done anything to protect their loved ones. There was only one problem. They were on different sides. In Season 2 he got kicked off of his side, and we saw Zuko change  a lot. We even saw him go out on a date (or 2 if you read the magazine). Those changes were still with him in the beginning of Season 3, and he remembered what if felt like to be free. When he joined the Avatar, we all freaked. Not only were we right about that, but it was the perfect opportunity for Zutara to happen. And for a moment, we saw a little bit of the old Zuko in Katara. The perfect yin and yang combination. We saw all the hints and signs they put into that show. That’s why I believe, and why I still have faith.” –bluetarako

“I can never get enough of this ship. Now I have always been intrigued of Zutara since season one, yet I stuck to fanfiction for my alternate realities of the show. LOL. It wasn't until season two and the season's finale that Zuko found a big place in my heart and the prospect of Zutara became a possibility. But a little bit of me wanted some hope that it could work. While I had fanfiction, I actually have Avid. to thank for her videos, Trishna, Greenify, MizSweet, to thank for with their podcasts and journals. I mean the tension! the conflict, the fact that he was Katara's enemy in the beginning only for them to OPEN up to each other and talk of their feelings and share a little of their pasts. The fact that they BOTH give and take to each other. They can communicate and listen and understand each other without holding nothing back! The fact that he was her enemy, and she confided in him, then his ultimate betrayal, only to later join them! Asking for forgiveness, trying to make things right. Her hate for him, that will soon change because she'll eventually forgive him. Ah! That's good ass storytelling XD! It's realistic, because the dynamics of their relationship is very human in nature. There's depth! If they were real people their situation would be real. And even if they remained friends, it would be one that would far surpass any relationship shown in the show and transcend time! VIVA LA ZUTARA REVOLUTION!!” –MeowKittyKitty85

“I won’t lie, what really got me into Avatar was Zutara. It was the fun of this couple that made me want to watch the actual show. The fanbase for this pairing has been awesome too, I have never seen one be so passionate, fun, and willing to make fun of itself. Zutara was good opposites attract romance, and it was great that the characters would have a relationship that wasn’t “rainbows and butterflies.” It is the most complex and interesting of the pairings by taking their most complex character and placing him with a girl who would challenge him. I think that Zutara would have lead to the characters to grow in ways that had not been previously thought of—especially for Katara, who has had the least amount of growth in the Gaang. Katara would have made Zuko’s “transformation” complete, and he would have created a change in her. I don’t think there is another pairing that could embody the shows themes of “growing and changing as a person,” and “not everything is as it seems.”-freyaskitten

“I ship Zutara, because I believe it gives me hope. A hope that when the war of the avatarverse ends that their world will be united not going back to the stereotypical division it was before. People in the Avatarverse are divided, Aang, Toph, Katara, Zuko, and Sokka represent what their world should be like, Benders from all nations even Non-Benders to be friends even if some have disagreements. But their still judged by others, the sterotypicalness of the nations how people treat others who they have been against for so long, that's not they way their world should be. How any world should be. So why I ship Zutara comes back to one simple statement: because balance in a life, in a world, in LOVE is nessesary. And Zutara is one of the only ships that can give me that.” –Scarlet-Songstress
